Scheduler vs Period Management

This article is for Tempo for Cloud and Data Center

Many customers want to close reporting periods to prevent users from modifying worklogs in the past, but do not necessarily want to enable Timesheets approval. Currently, there are 2 ways to close Tempo reporting periods: automatically by using the Scheduler or manually by Period Management.

  • Configure the Scheduler to automatically close periods either weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly in the Scheduler Configuration.

  • Manually close monthly periods using Period Management.

Scheduler vs Period Management

Customers can use whichever feature that fits their business needs, or use both features together. Either way, both of these features can close periods on the same worklogs, and they work in parallel since they do not interact with the other.

Use Case:

Here at Tempo, we use both features. We have set up the Scheduler to automatically close weekly periods so that users can’t modify their worklogs of previous weeks. Then towards the end of the month, we manually closes our monthly reporting period by Period Management so that managers can’t modify any worklogs after billing.
