Problem
Why can’t the user connect to Microsoft Office 365 and see “Failed to get user from Microsoft”?
The user who cannot choose between “Individual” and “Organization” but instead always ends up in the “organizational flow” requiring admin consent, which we cannot and don’t want to accept (admin consent).
Solution
This happens because the user’s Microsoft account is recognized as an organizational (work or school) account. Microsoft automatically forces the organizational login flow, which requires admin consent. Since admin consent is not granted, the connection fails and the error is shown.
Can this be bypassed?
No. This behavior is enforced by Microsoft and cannot be overridden.
What are the options?
-
Use a personal Microsoft account (Individual flow), or
-
Ask the Microsoft 365 tenant admin to approve the required permissions if organizational access is needed.
-
Contact Microsoft support to review the tenant configuration and sign-in restrictions.
