Prevent logging time on completed/on-hold Spaces

This article is for Tempo for Cloud and Data Center

Tempo addons cannot restrict time logging based on Space status, but logging time is a Space permission that is managed by Jira Space permissions.

To prevent users from logging time on completed/on-hold Jira Space, you will need to remove access for "Browse projects" or "Work on issues" Space permissions of the specific Space.

  • Removing "Browse projects" will remove seeing the Space/work items. You cannot log time on work items that you cannot see/find.

  • Removing "Work on issues" will remove logging time on the work items.

If you wish to manage multiple Spaces, you can create a Space permission scheme to apply the same Space permissions for all the users/user groups on these completed/on-hold Spaces, instead of managing them one by one.

For example, you have 10 Spaces that are using Jira "default permission scheme". After 3 months, two of the Spaces are completed and no one should modify them any more. Instead of deleting/archiving them, you still want to keep them for Finance team to run reports. You can create a new "completed permission scheme" to grant "Browse project" permission for Finance team and remove all other Space permissions. Whenever a Space is completed or on-hold, you can assign the Space to this "completed permission scheme". When a Space is no longer on-hold, you can assign the Space back to "default permission scheme" and continue working.
