Problem
An Epic was created, with a Story linked to that Epic, and sub-tasks created under the Story. When time is logged on the sub-tasks, it correctly rolls up and is reflected on the parent Story. However, the same time does not roll up or appear at the Epic level.
Solution
When viewing the Time Tracking panel on the work item:
-
Time logged on a sub-task will be visible on the parent story when you select the “Include sub-tasks” setting.
-
On the Epic work item, Jira only rolls up one level in the hierarchy. You will only see hours logged on the Epic and its child work items.
The logged time report can roll up the sub-task hours to be inlcuded under the Epic at report time
So:
-
✅ Sub-task → Epic roll-up works in Tempo reports (Timesheet / Worklog views, when grouped or filtered by Epic)
-
❌ The Epic issue itself will never show that time
If you don’t see the roll-up in a Tempo report, check that:
-
Sub-tasks are included in the report
-
The Epic is linked correctly (Epic Link)
-
You are filtering using the Epic filter (filtering by the issue will not give the same result)
