Small discrepancy between timesheet entries and totals

Problem

There’s a small discrepancy between the individual timesheet entries and the totals. For example, the daily totals add up to 40h, but the weekly total shows 39h 59m. Or two entries of 58m show a combined total of 1h 55m instead of 1h 56m.

Solution

This usually happens when time is logged in seconds or decimal hours. For example, 0.96 hours is stored as 57 minutes 36 seconds. Timesheets rounds each entry to the nearest minute for display, but totals are calculated from the exact stored values. Small differences add up, so the displayed entries can sum to slightly more or less than the total.

The interface only shows whole minutes, so the seconds aren’t visible there. To see the exact values, export the worklogs in a report or retrieve them through the API.

To avoid this, log time in whole minutes (for example, 57m or 1h).

The API is still mentioned in the second paragraph, but only as a way to view the exact values. That part comes from Tom Wu’s reply in the ticket, so I kept it. Say so if you’d rather drop it too.
