Usage of a single connector license on multiple Jira instances

Question

We are currently working on our reporting architecture and have a specific use case involving three separate Jira Service Management instances. We are looking to build our dashboards utilizing your Power BI connector, but we want to streamline our setup by using a single plugin to connect to all three instances simultaneously.

Specifically, our requirements are:

  1. Connecting one single plugin to 3 different JSM instances.

  2. Routing the data from each specific instance to its own designated Power BI workspace.

  3. Ensuring that the individual Jira instances use separate reporting dashboards, meaning the tables across the instances must not be merged.

Could you please advise on the feasibility of this architecture and how we can best leverage a single connector license to achieve this specific routing and data separation?

Answer

A single Power BI Connector for Jira installation cannot serve three separate Jira (JSM) instances at once. Each instance requires its own connector installation and its own data sources.

You can still achieve your routing and separation goals by installing the application in each of the three instances, then connecting each instance's OData sources to its own dedicated Power BI workspace. This keeps the data, models, and reports fully separate, with no merging across instances.

To summarize, one connector installation per Jira instance, not one shared across all three - that is the only existing architecture.
