How access permissions to data work

Question

It seems some data (like audit logs) is visible only to admin users. Since I do not have admin access, I am unable to view the data.

My question is:

If an admin creates a dataset and I connect to that dataset in Power BI, will I be able to access and view the data properly?

Answer

You are correct that certain data, such as audit logs, is restricted to Jira administrators. You should see an info icon within the user interface providing further details when navigating to these specific tables:

To view this data in Power BI, the export should be configured using administrative credentials (email address and access token). Please note that even if an administrator creates the data source for you, Power BI fetches information based on the permission level of the specific user whose login details are entered.

Consequently, if non-administrator credentials are used, no audit log data will be retrieved.
