Uninstalling Tempo in Jira Cloud.
Answer
For full disablement of Tempo Timesheets on Jira Cloud, a complete uninstall of the app is the correct path. To explain why, here's how the app can be scaled back and what each level actually achieves:
-
Restricting user access (via Jira global permissions) only limits who can open Tempo; the app remains installed, still consumes a subscription, and could still be re-granted access later. This alone does not disable it.
-
Switching the time tracking provider to Jira native (which you've done) stops new time logs from going through Tempo, but again, the app itself stays active in the site.
-
Uninstalling the app is what removes it from the instance entirely, which is what "completely disabled" requires.
Recommended steps:
-
Confirm whether any other Tempo apps (Tempo Planner, Tempo Budgets, etc.) are still in active use and depend on Tempo Core; only remove what you no longer need.
-
Go to Jira Settings → Apps → Manage apps, locate Tempo Timesheets, and deactivate/cancel the subscription (Unsubscribe / Stop trial / Manage subscription depending on your license type).
-
Once deactivation completes, the Uninstall button becomes available; you can click it to remove Tempo Timesheets from the site.
-
Repeat for any other Tempo apps you're retiring alongside it.
-
After uninstall, review dashboards, saved filters, and automation rules for Tempo-specific custom fields (e.g., work attributes) that may become orphaned, and clean those up.
One note for awareness: your core worklog hours will remain in Jira's native time tracking field after uninstall, but Tempo-specific metadata (worklog author display, work descriptions) lives in Tempo's own backend and won't be retrievable post-uninstall. Since you've already backed this up, this should be a non-issue.
