Question
How Tempo handles different time zones.
Answer
Tempo sets a worklog’s date in the user’s own time zone, but Jira can display the same worklog on a different day.
Using two users on the same day:
|
|
Ana (New York, UTC-5) |
Ben (Tokyo, UTC+9) |
|---|---|---|
|
Logs 2h on Nov 6 |
At 11:00 PM local, i.e. 04:00 UTC on Nov 7 |
At 9:00 AM local, i.e. 00:00 UTC on Nov 6 |
|
Shown in Tempo |
Nov 6 (her local date) |
Nov 6 (his local date) |
|
Shown in Jira |
Nov 7 (UTC) |
Nov 6 (UTC) |
In Tempo, both entries sit on Nov 6, which matches what each user intended. In Jira, Ana’s worklog appears on Nov 7 because Jira displays UTC, so a timesheet or report pulled from Jira can put her hours on the wrong day. The mismatch only happens for entries logged late in the local day for users west of UTC, or early in the day for users east of UTC.
