Roadmunk 103 - Tips, Tricks, and Workarounds

Quick Tips for Roadmappers

Did you know that in Roadmunk...

  • ... filter values are inclusive of the specified values? This means that greater than/after, less than/before, or between filters will include any entries equal to the value specified on the filter. More details on our filters can be found here: Working with Filters

  • ... item cards won't show fields when no value is specified? If there are fields that aren't relevant to a particular item but are used on other roadmap items, leave the value blank and it won't show on the item card. Learn how to work with items here: Creating & Managing Items

  • ... you can only colour by list fields? To ensure that you're able to focus your roadmap and avoid confusing your stakeholders, Roadmunk allows you to use only List fields when colouring items. You can learn more about our colour palette options here: Working with Color Palettes

Organizing your Roadmaps

From your Roadmaps home page, you can:

  • Quickly create backups and versions of roadmaps: To make version tracking easy and ensure that you have backups of all of your roadmaps, you can create an unlimited number of duplicate versions by following the steps here: Working with Version Control for Roadmaps

  • Update roadmap permissions and sharing settings: You can easily update which team members have permissions to view your roadmaps from the homepage. To get started, you can follow the steps here and start collaborating with your team: Working with Teams in Roadmaps

  • View and organize your team's fields: From the field management folders on the roadmaps homepage, admins can quickly and easily navigate, update, archive, and merge their team's fields with ease. Learn more about how to do this here: Creating & Managing Fields

Collaborating with your Team in Roadmunk

From inside the application, you can:

  • Provide direct insight on in-flight items: Using our comments feature, you can provide further context on items and tag relevant stakeholders and owners to keep them in the loop. You can learn more about this collaboration feature here: Comments & Mentions

  • Drill down into team-focused roadmaps: By rolling up team roadmaps into a single Portfolio roadmap, you're able to visualize and filter all of their data in a single visualization and drill down into their roadmaps through the item card. Learn more here: Working with Portfolio Roadmapping

  • Close the loop with owners, stakeholders, and followers: Keeping your entire team updated can be tough, but with our Team Member fields you can quickly update any relevant team member as changes are made. Learn how to set up these fields here: Team Members Fields

Data Visualization in Table View

From your table view, you can:

  • Import data from other tools in CSV format: From inside your roadmap, you can import a CSV file to quickly populate your data. For those using the European standard separator and decimal defaults, please review the steps found here: Import Roadmap Data from CSV

  • Bulk update field values in the item table: The values for a specific field can be bulk updated on multiple items by applying a change to one of those items while they're all selected. A useful guide on this feature can be found in this article: Creating & Managing Items

  • Quickly navigate and update the table using your keyboard: The Items table view supports full keyboard navigation, letting you navigate to different cells using your arrow keys as you would in other apps. More details on that can be found here: Navigating the Items Table

Data Visualization on Roadmap Views

From your roadmap, you can:

  • Move Items without Changing the Dates: By holding down the shift key while moving items, you're able to move an item vertically on the timeline view without worrying about accidentally moving the dates of the item. Details on this can be found here: Creating & Managing Items

  • Colour your roadmaps however you'd like: While our standard palettes allow you to explore 12 preset colours on your roadmap, you can use Custom Palettes to create an unlimited number of colour combinations and palettes using the steps found here: Working with Color Palettes

  • Visualize data on roadmaps by using Emojis: This allows you to create an easy-to-read visual reference for fields like status, region/location, cost, and so many more values. More details can be found here: Roadmapping with Emojis 🤔❤️

Data Visualization on Portfolio Roadmap Views

From your Portfolio roadmap, you can:

  • Combine values from multiple Jira-integrated roadmaps: Showcase the work of multiple teams in a single roadmap view by using Portfolio roadmaps to roll up multiple Jira-integrated roadmaps. More details on Jira integrations can be found here: Integrating with Jira

  • Quickly create new account-level fields: When working in a Portfolio roadmap, you can quickly generate new account-level fields that your entire team can access and apply values to those from the Portfolio. More details on account-level fields here: Creating & Managing Fields

  • Visualize cross-roadmap linked items: Build out the connection between multiple roadmaps and teams from a single view. Using cross-roadmap linked items, you can update your linked items automatically using the steps found here: Working with Linked Items
