Tasks are highlighted in red in Gantt Charts

This article is for Gantt Charts Cloud.

Problem

Some tasks on my Gantt chart have a red color, and I don’t know why.

Solution

It is possible for tasks on the Gantt chart to have red indicators if the task is a part of the chart’s Critical path or has scheduling conflicts.

  1. A task is considered to be the chart’s Critical task when its Finish date is the latest Finish date of all tasks on the chart. In such a case, the task’s bar on the chart has a red/orange border around. This is one of the standard visual indicators on a Gantt chart, and its presence is not a sign of anything being wrong on the chart; the indicator’s nature is purely informative. You can disable it from being displayed by unselecting the ‘Critical Path’ option, if needed: https://help.tempo.io/gantt/latest/task-indicators#Show/Hide-Task-Indicators

  2. A scheduling conflict can appear either if the task cannot be started or finished on the existing dates because of an existing dependency in it, or if its work cannot be completed within the given duration between the start & finish date. A conflict appears as a red warning sign on the left side of the task’s bar: https://help.tempo.io/gantt/latest/scheduling-conflict Clicking on a conflict provides additional details about its nature, and suggests options for resolving it.
