DC to Cloud migration stalls at export (database connection timeout)

Symptom

A Data Center to Cloud migration with Tempo stops after the first few tasks, for example at the DOWNLOAD_SAM_MAPPINGS or account custom field export step. Running the task again does not move the migration forward.

The Data Center logs show an export error with a database connection timeout, such as Cannot get a connection, pool error: Timeout waiting for idle object.

Cause

The Data Center database connection pool is exhausted. Other applications and processes on the Data Center instance query the same database at the same time as the migration export, so the export cannot get a database connection in time.

Resolution

  • Run the migration in a time window when the Data Center instance has less activity.

  • Increase the database connection pool size, the maximum wait time for a connection, or both.

  • Run the migration again after the change.

If the migration still stalls after these steps, contact Tempo Support with the transfer ID and the support zip from the Data Center instance.

Prevention

Check the database connection pool settings on the Data Center instance before you start the migration. For the full migration steps, see Data Center to Cloud Migration Using JCMA.
