SQL Connector for Jira (Cloud)

Data Center to Cloud Migration Documentation

Things to Know

  • There is currently no automated migration option from Data Center to Cloud. We are working on an automated migration solution.

  • Because the Cloud and Data Center apps use different APIs, data sources created in SQL Connector for Jira Data Center must be manually re-created in the Jira Cloud app for now. Data sources created in the Data Center app cannot be automatically migrated or copied to the Cloud app.

  • Re-creating data sources requires careful review of the Jira fields they use. Check each field and map it to the corresponding field in Jira Cloud. Not all fields available in Jira Data Center are available in Jira Cloud, and field names may differ.

  • Because the fields available for export differ between the Cloud and Data Center apps, some reports may need to be redesigned as part of the migration planning.

Migration Steps

Prepare for Migration

Ensure that Tableau Connector for Jira Cloud is installed on your instance and that the required users and groups have the necessary permissions.

Decide Which Data Sources to Migrate

Review your data sources and identify the ones that are still in use. Check the export history to determine which data sources are exported frequently and which have not been used recently. Use filters to narrow the list if needed.

Create Database

Add your database configurations to the app before re-creating data sources.
Important: The Cloud app doesn't support custom JDBC connection parameters or connections to databases using private IP addresses.

Configure Your Integrations

If you export data from third-party apps using Tableau Connector, add the required app tokens before you re-create the data sources. You must add the token for an app before you can select its tables for export.

Review the list of available integrations and add the tokens for the apps you want to use. After you add the tokens, you can select the corresponding tables for export.

Re-Create Data Sources

To make the migration easier, open two tabs: one with the data source in the Data Center instance and another with the Data Sources page in the Cloud instance.

Review the fields used in each data source and map them to the corresponding fields in Jira Cloud. Re-create each data source that you want to continue using in Cloud.

Apply Filters

Use the available filtering options to narrow the data selection and specify which data to export. Note that filtering options and schemas may differ between Data Center and Cloud.

Filters are available for Jira Work Management, Jira Software, and Jira Service Management tables. See Jira Filters Overview to learn how filtering works in the Jira Cloud app.

Share Data Sources

Use the sharing settings to share each data source with the corresponding users and groups in your Jira Cloud instance.

Connect Database to Data Source

After adding your database configurations and re-creating your data sources, assign a database to each data source to specify where its data will be exported.

Unlike the Data Center app, which lets you select a database while creating a data source, the Cloud app requires you to create the data source first and then assign a database to it.

Configure Auto-Export

This step is optional. If you use auto-export in the Data Center app, configure your auto-export settings in the Cloud app as needed.
