What happens to data and worklogs if the Tempo Timesheets license is expired

Question

What happens when a Tempo Data Center / Server (On-Premises) license expires?

  1. Will historical Tempo data remain accessible after the license expiration date?

  2. Are there any limitations on viewing, exporting, or reporting on existing data?

  3. Is any action required before the license expires to retain access to historical records?

Answer

  • Accessing Historical Data:

    • Tempo Timesheets: Data remains accessible through the standard Jira user interface (UI) even after the license expires.

    • Tempo Planner & Tempo Budgets: UI access will cease to function once the license expires.

  • Data Retention & Storage Limitations:

    • No data is deleted upon license expiration. All historical Tempo data is stored permanently in your local Jira Data Center / Server database.

    • If UI access is limited (such as with Planner or Budgets), raw historical data can still be queried, viewed, or exported directly via database queries.

  • Required Actions:

    • No action is required prior to license expiration to retain your data. If you ever need access to Planner or Budgets data in the future, you can either perform direct database queries or renew your license to regain full UI functionality.
