Custom Charts for Jira (Cloud)

User Impersonation

User Impersonation is a powerful feature that lets you configure a chart to display its data to all Confluence users, even those without an active Jira license, with the same level of visibility as the impersonated user.

Only Confluence administrators can enable this feature.

Enabling impersonation for users and groups

You need to add users or groups to the impersonation list on your Jira instance before users can select themselves as an impersonation source. To do so:

  1. Select the Cog icon to open the settings menu.

  2. Select Marketplace apps.

  3. Select Custom Jira Charts - Settings > User Impersonation.

  4. Expand Permission - User Impersonation.

  5. Search for the users or groups you want to include and select Add for each one to add them to the list.

After adding users or groups to this list, they can select themselves as the account to impersonate on Confluence. Anyone that views an impersonated chart can see the same data as the selected user or group.

Enabling impersonation of other users and groups

Users with this permission can select any other Confluence user to impersonate when displaying Jira data in charts.

Granting this permission is a type of privilege escalation and can be used to display otherwise sensitive information to unintended parties. Be extremely careful when granting this permission to users.

  1. Select the Cog icon to open the settings menu.

  2. Select Marketplace apps.

  3. Select Custom Jira Charts - Settings > User Impersonation.

  4. Expand Permission - Impersonate Other User.

  5. Search for the users or groups you want to include and select Add for each one to add them to the list.

Using impersonation in charts

After you enable User Impersonation in Jira, you can set it up in your Confluence macros:

  1. Edit a chart and select the User Impersonation tab.

  2. Select the User impersonation option.

  3. Enter the name of a Jira user or group to use their permissions when loading a chart.

Customizing the User Impersonation display

The display options tab of a chart includes the following options if User Impersonation is enabled:

  1. Show impersonation user under chart: When enabled, you can see the user being impersonated when loading a chart’s data.

  2. Allow click-through (requires Jira access): When enabled, users can select a Jira work item in the chart to view its details in Jira.
