Question
How can I automatically sort cards by a specific field (like Priority) within a Swimlane view without manually dragging and dropping each item?
Answer
To enable automatic sorting within a complex Swimlane view, you should utilize the Row Grouping feature. If your current layout does not allow for the specific sorting behavior you need, you can resolve this by nesting your data. Keep in mind you may also need to swap your current Columns and Rows to achieve your goal.
Follow these steps to configure your view:
-
Open Format Settings: On the View navbar, click the Format icon to open the layout settings.
-
Enable Row Groups: Under the Layout tab, click the Group Rows By dropdown. Note that you can only select List, Multi-Select, or Team Member fields for this secondary grouping layer.
-
Automatic Alignment: Once grouped, the cards will naturally align within their respective rows according to the priority or numerical data associated with those items.
-
Adjust Layout (Optional): If your current field (the vertical pivot) does not support the nesting you need, you can change the Row Header field in the same Layout tab or swap your Columns and Rows to change the primary axis of the view.
Note: For more information on configuring these views, you can refer to the official documentation on Row Groups https://help.tempo.io/roadmaps/latest/swimlane-view#Create-Row-Groups .
