The default view for columns resizes each column to fit them in your browser window, including columns you add. Depending on the amount of columns in your structure, you may find it difficult to view the information you need. You can improve the readability of your view with horizontal scrolling.
To do so:
-
Go to :viewOptions: View options.
-
Enable Horizontal scrolling.
Once you turn horizontal scrolling on, your view may no longer fit within the viewing panel. In this case, a horizontal scrollbar will appear at the bottom of the panel. Sliding this from left to right will allow you to bring different columns into view.
Pinned Columns
The Summary column is pinned and always visible when horizontal scrolling is enabled, regardless of its size and the size of other columns. This helps you keep track of essential information while looking at data in other columns.
To pin other columns to make sure they’re always visible:
-
Select the column name, then select Pin. This appends the column to other pinned columns.
-
Drag the column to the left of any currently pinned column to pin it in that location.
Unpinning a column from the column options menu will move it back to its previous position. If you unpin a column by dragging it away from the pins, it is placed where you drop it.
All pinned columns are moved back to their original positions, if possible, when you disable horizontal scrolling.
You cannot unpin the summary column.
Saving Horizontal Scrolling Settings
Structure allows you to save your horizontal scrolling settings for a particular view.
For example, by default, the Basic View only shows a few essential columns. Keeping horizontal scrolling disabled for this view makes sure all of your essential information is visible at a glance. On the other hand, the Planning view often has several columns and might be easier to scroll through than trying to view all together.
To set your horizontal scrolling preference for a saved view:
-
Locate the view in the Views Menu
-
Highlight the view and click the Edit link
-
Under the Properties tab, check or uncheck Horizontal scrolling
You cannot edit system views (Basic, Planning, Tracking, etc.). In order to enable/disable Horizontal scrolling for one of these views, you must create a new view using Save As. See Saving and Sharing Views.
