Installing Tempo Timesheets

If you don't have Timesheets installed, you can install the plugin from within Jira by using the Universal Plugin Manager:

To install Tempo Timesheets for Server...

Before you begin, choose a compatible version of Timesheets by consulting the compatibility tableYou can get a free trial of Timesheets and replace the evaluation license with a purchased license at a later time. You can install Timesheets from within Jira by using the Universal Plugin Manager.

To install Timesheets, you need Jira System Administrators permissions:

  1. Log in as a user with the JIRA Administrators global permission.

  2. Click on the gear icon at top-right and select Add-ons.

  3. On the left sidebar, click on Find new add-ons.

  4. Search for Timesheets with the Search the Marketplace field.

  5. In the 'Timesheets for JIRA' section, click Free trial or Buy now, and follow the instructions to download Timesheets.

Jira's Universal Plugin Manager can automatically select the latest version of Timesheets that is compatible with your versions of Jira, Jira Agile, and Planner by Tempo. Alternatively, you can choose an earlier version of Tempo Planner to install from the Atlassian marketplace.

If you already have Timesheets installed, you can upgrade your plugin to the latest version. To ensure a smooth upgrade, please review the list of upgrade tasks and the versions of Tempo Timesheets for Server that are affected.

Depending on which final version you wish to upgrade to, you may have to upgrade to a median version first.

To prepare to update Tempo Timesheets for Server...

We recommend you read the Proactive Actions before Install page before upgrading.

Please note if you are upgrading Jira you need to verify that your version of Tempo Timesheet is compatible with your Jira version. There are two different scenarios where Jira and Tempo are incompatible:

  1. Jira version is lower than Tempo compatible version

  2. Jira version is higher than Tempo compatible version

If your Jira version is lower than your Tempo compatible version, please take the following steps:

  1. Uninstall Timesheets and Tempo System plugins if installed.

  2. Restart your Jira server.

  3. Install a lower and compatible Timesheets version to your Jira server.

If your Jira version is higher than your Tempo compatible version, you don’t need to uninstall Tempo. You simply need to upgrade Tempo to a higher and compatible version.

Upgrading to the latest version of Timesheets

Follow the sequential instructions below to upgrade to Timesheets latest version available.

Upgrading from Timesheets 15.9

  1. Before you start, please ensure that you do a full backup of your Timesheets instance.

  2. Upgrade to Timesheets to the latest version

  3. Once the upgrade is all done, please, refresh your browser.

Upgrading from Timesheets 11.0 

  1. Before you start, please ensure that you do a full backup of your Timesheets instance.

  2. Upgrade to Timesheets 15.9

  3. Once the upgrade is all done, please, refresh your browser.

  4. Upgrade to the latest version of Timesheets.

Upgrading from Timesheets 10.0 

  1. Before you start, please ensure that you do a full backup of your Timesheets instance.

  2. Upgrade to Timesheets 11.0

  3. Once the upgrade is all done, please, refresh your browser.

  4. Upgrade to the latest version of Timesheets.

Upgrading from Timesheets 9.0

  1. Before you start, please ensure that you do a full backup of your Timesheets instance.

  2. Upgrade to Timesheets 10

  3. Once the upgrade is all done, please, refresh your browser.

  4. Upgrade to the latest version of Timesheets.

Upgrading from Timesheets 8.10

  1. Before you start, please ensure that you do a full backup of your Timesheets instance.

  2. Upgrade to Timesheets 9.0.0

  3. Once the upgrade is all done, please, refresh your browser.

  4. Upgrade to Timesheets for Server to the latest version available.

Please note: there are big differences between Timesheets 8.x and 9.x/10. Before upgrading, please take a moment to read the release notes for Timesheets 9.0.

Upgrading from after Timesheets 8.6

  1. Before you start, please ensure that you do a full backup of your Timesheets instance.

  2. Upgrade to Timesheets 8.10

  3. Once the upgrade is all done, please, refresh your browser.

  4. Upgrade to Timesheets for Server to the latest version available.

Upgrading from between Timesheets 8.2 to 8.6

  1. Before you start, please ensure that you do a full backup of your Timesheets instance.

  2. Upgrade to Timesheets for Server 8.6

  3. New Database columns are added in this version. See the Proactive Action before Install page for all details. 

  4. Upgrade to Timesheets for Server to the latest version available.

Upgrading from between Timesheets 8.0 to 8.1

  1. Before you start, please ensure that you do a full backup of your Timesheets instance.

  2. Upgrade to Timesheets for Server 8.2

  3. All worklog attributes are migrated from an xml file stored in the JIRA db to a new Active Objects table. For large instances with many worklog attributes linked to worklogs this might take some time. See the Proactive Action before Install page for all details. 

  4. Upgrade to Timesheets for Server 8.6

  5. New Database columns are added in this version. See the Proactive Action before Install page for all details. 

  6. Upgrade to Timesheets for Server to the latest version available.

To update Tempo Timesheets for Server

To update Timesheets, you need Jira System Administrators permissions:

  1. Log in as a user with the Jira Administrators global permission.

  2. Click on the gear icon at top-right and select Add-ons.

  3. On the left sidebar, click on Manage add-ons.

  4. Under User-installed add-ons, select Tempo Timesheets.

  5. Click on Update. If there is no update option listed under Tempo Timesheets then your version of Timesheets is up to date.


You can also disable or uninstall the plugin.

To disable Tempo Timesheets for Server...

Before you begin, choose a compatible version of Tempo Planner by consulting the compatibility table.

To disable Timesheets, you need Jira System Administrators permissions:

  1. Log in as a user with the Jira Administrators global permission.

  2. Click on the gear icon at top-right and select Add-ons.

  3. On the left sidebar, click on Manage add-ons.

  4. Expand Tempo Timesheets in the User-installed Add-ons.

  5. Click the Disable button.

  6. Repeat for other Tempo add-ons that are bundled with the Tempo Timesheets (Core and Teams) if you are not using other Tempo products.

To uninstall Tempo Timesheets for Server

To uninstall Timesheets, you need Jira Administrators global permission:

  1. Log in as a user with the Jira Administrators global permission.

  2. Click the gear icon at top-right and select Add-ons.

  3. Expand Timesheets in the User-installed Add-ons.

  4. Click the Uninstall button.

  5. Repeat for other Tempo add-ons that are bundled with the Tempo Timesheets (Core and Teams) if you are not using other Tempo products that depend on this module.

Or, if you prefer, you can downgrade your version of Tempo Timesheets for Server to an earlier version.

To downgrade Tempo Timesheets...

Every version of Timesheets might include upgrade tasks to migrate data from old to new database tables or improved features. An example of this is the worklog attribute migration in Timesheets 8.0.0 and the migration in Timesheets 7.10 when Tempo Accounts is replacing the Tempo Account Manager.

When downgrading, you therefore run the risk of losing data and also potentially making future upgrades more complex, as upgrade tasks run only once.

To downgrade Timesheets to an earlier version, you need Jira System Administrators permissions:

Please note that if you upgrade your Jira version, your Tempo Timesheet version might not be compatible with the upgraded version.




It is very important to ensure that your version of Tempo Timesheets for Server and Jira for Server are compatible. Before upgrading or downgrading either Tempo Timesheets for Server or Jira, please consult the Compatibility Chart.

Tempo for Server Product Compatibility chart...


Tempo is compliant with Atlassian’s End of life policy (EOL). Please refer to the following page to learn more about the Atlassian Support End of Life Policy.

Atlassian supports feature versions for two years after its release. Tempo products for Jira are also supported for two years (e.g. we support Tempo Timesheets 8.0.x for 2 years after Tempo Timesheets 8.0 was released).

Tempo does not provide support for instances on versions that have reached End of Life. The only exception is for assistance related to upgrading from our EOL version to a supported version. 


All of our products are guaranteed to be compatible with other versions released at the same time. Other versions of our products may still be compatible, but we cannot guarantee this.

For the best experience and maximum compatibility, update all of your software to the latest versions of Jira and Tempo.
