Release Updates for Swimlane Beta
These release updates are specific to the Swimlane Beta. We are actively tracking all other release notes for Strategic Roadmaps in our Release Notes section of the Help Center.
NEW FEATURE In an exciting new update, we’ve implemented the next stages of the new drag and drop functionality. This new functionality uses a cleaner indicator that allows users to see where their items are being dropped on the roadmap.
NEW FEATURE To make better use of the space on the screen, users can easily choose from one of three row-height options for their item names:
Default: The system default for all Swimlane roadmaps, showing 3 lines of text per title in Standard and Compact mode.
Show Less: A single line option for both Standard and Compact mode, with the same marquee effect for longer titles we previously had.
Show More: Allows users to show up to five lines of text on their Swimlane cards in both Standard and Compact mode.
ENHANCEMENT Users may have noticed a bit less movement on the screen - we’ve moved the context menu into an overlay, allowing users to mouseover without their Swimlane cards shifting.
BUG FIXES Thanks to some eagle-eyed users, we’ve been able to track down an issue with loading published roadmaps in iFrames. This fix will ensure that your published roadmaps can be setup for use on any site where iFrames are supported and that they’ll retain full functionality.
NO UPDATES To let our teams spend time with their family and friends, we’ve paused release updates for this period. See you all in the new year!
ENHANCEMENT The team is excited to announce that a number of changes have been made to row virtualization on larger roadmaps. With these changes, users will be able to see rows auto-calculate their sizes on first load and prevent “jumping” when navigating through the Swimlane.
ENHANCEMENT We’ve also made some key changes to the fixed heights of elements on the roadmaps, which will allow us to show variable sized data within the cards (increased title and description sizes, for example). These updates should be expected in the coming weeks.
BUG FIXES Some users may have noticed cells not resizing as expected when adjusting certain toggles in the Swimlane Format Panel. The team has resolved this issue and ensured that cells are resizing automatically, as expected.
NEW FEATURE Users can now toggle on and off the grid lines of the Swimlane, helping to reduce the amount of floating whitespace when working in a smaller or less-densely populated roadmap.
NEW FEATURE Users may now notice that there’s a collapsible banner in the top bar of the screen. This new Swimlane Beta Help Bar provides immediate access to key resources for beta users and makes the toggle more visible on the page.
ENHANCEMENT Some users may have noticed that the new Swimlane is now their default roadmap state for Swimlanes. On request, we’ve started rolling this out to users in the early access group.
NEW FEATURE Empty states for roadmaps are now live and provide users with quick actions to start creating, building, and updating their roadmaps.
ENHANCEMENT We’ve reduced the size of the context menu on cards and adjusted the ellipsis (icon) to run horizontally instead of vertically, based on user feedback.
BUG FIXES Our team resolved an issue where the undo functionality was not working as expected after dragging items into another cell on the Swimlane Beta.
ENHANCEMENT The Legend component has received some small quality-of-life updates:
A newer, easier to locate button has been set for the Legend component
We’ve added a tooltip to the button as well, to help users understand what it does
Text sizes and weights inside the legend have been adjusted to improve readability
The Legend will no longer automatically close when you try to scroll in the roadmap
ENHANCEMENT Text in the headers on the roadmap have been spaced out a little bit more, based on some readability concerns we’ve received from users working on larger screens.
ENHANCEMENT We’ve reduced some of the on-hover movement for cards, in order to prevent the Swimlane from appearing erratic as you’re mousing over the screen.
ENHANCEMENT We’ve adjusted how our virtualization calculates row heights during the initial roadmap load. This means that roadmaps will no longer appear to jump or flash as you navigate your view.
NEW FEATURE The toggle to show a preview window for published roadmaps is now active, with live previews of your customizations and a fully interactive version of the roadmap.
ENHANCEMENT We’ve adjusted some styling for the Add Sub-Item button on the Swimlane card - making it appear more round and closer to the style of the button in the Sub-Items menu.
ENHANCEMENT Swimlane Cards are now less rounded and have a solid color tab on the left, similar to legacy. Based on user feedback, this should make the items' colors easier to see on the roadmap.
NEW FEATURE Roadmap items in the Swimlane Beta can now have two types of titles:
Multi-Line Titles show the title across two lines, to let users surface more of their longer item names within in the visualization.
Single-Line Titles show the title on one line, and can marquee longer titles on hover to show the rest of the item name without adding extra space to the roadmap.
ENHANCEMENT We’ve made some slight changes to the header text for columns and rows, to improve readability and positioning of the header labels in both Standard and Compact modes.
NEW FEATURE Styles for our axis labels have been updated to make them less visually intrusive on the overall view and they can now be interacted with, with similar options to the axis labels in our legacy Swimlane.
BUG FIXES Our team has resolved a bug where certain roadmaps with custom palettes generated by Templates were causing the roadmapping toolbars to be hidden.
BUG FIXES Our team resolved another issue where roadmap publishes weren’t processing as expected for newly-created Swimlane roadmaps.
BUG FIXES We’ve made some updates for any Archived Roadmaps using the new Swimlane Beta to prevent users from using context menus in the UI.
ENHANCEMENT Based on user feedback, the Item Details menu will now show all counts for Comments, Linked Items, Attachments, and Key Dates, even if the count is zero.
